Street markets have been legally accepted and provided livelihood for people living nearby all over the world for centuries. However, in Japan, the traditional street market has been getting fewer while the modern type of markets in private lands are blooming. This paper investigated the latest market situation in London where street markets is seen as an essential part of Londoners’ everyday experience of the capital not only by citizens but also by local authorities. Finally, we discuss several noteworthy aspects in relation with the street markets in Japan.
