In particular, faced with the increasing need for reducing vehicle traffic to adapt to climate change in recent years and the growing focus on effective public space transformation at the age of Covid-19, European cities are increasingly adopting policies for pedestrianisation based on a a new perspective:ʻwalking-based living areasʼ. This paper outlines three cases that are “Self-sufficient city” in Barcelona, “Superblock” also in Barcelona, and “Quarter-hour city”, and discusses the underlying philosophy of the emerging pedestrian policies.
