In this paper, the sound transmission at normal incidence through a rectangular double wall with clamped edges is analytically treated. First, the sound transmission loss through a double wall with surface panels in various position relative to each other and both of infinite area is determined, Then, the transmission loss through a rectangular double wall with surface panels in piston-type oscilation is determined, Finally, the case of a rectangular double wall with clamped edges is considered, and the modes of vibration of the surface panel and of the air cavity which occur analyzed. For the frequency characteristics of the calculated sound transmission loss of the clamped double wall, many fluctuation are observed and it is suggested that the fluctuations in the high-frequency range (f&gtf_rmd) are due to cavity resonance while those in the low-frequency range (f&ltf_rmd) are due to panel resonance with a tendency similar to that for a piston-type double wall.
