Abstract
Nd11.8Fe82.3B5.9, Nd13Fe80B7, Nd14Fe80B7, and Nd15Fe77B8 alloys were solidified by using gas jet flow type electromagnetic levitation method, the splat quenching method and the drop tube method. The purpose of this study was to achieve the direct crystallization of the Nd2Fe14B phase and to clarify the relationships between microstructure and magnetic properties. The refinement of the α-Fe phase in the samples obtained by using the gas jet flow type electromagnetic levitation method. The quenched samples were little the α-Fe phase, but mainly consisted of the Nd2Fe14B phase, and the coercivity extremely increased compare with master alloys. In the drop tube process, the resultant sample sizes were about 200-2000μm, and the coercivity increased the best in the sample with diameter of 710-1000μm.
