The purpose of this study is to make a student feel the practical utility of function, to develop the teaching materials of function that handle the concrete matter through which a student can grapple with learning of function eagerly. The way of this study is to develop the teaching materials of function which can be applied to the present teaching, based on the teaching materials in a modern American textbook and Japanese textbooks written in the 1920s to the 1950s, and practical examination is done through the high school mathematics classes. The teaching materials were developed based on the following three viewpoints. (1) Student's will to learn (2) Practical utility (3) Mathematics It was possible to make 20 or less percent of the students have the recognition to the practical utility of the function by a result of the questionnaire which was done after the class. But, it wasn't possible to make 80 or more percent of the students have the recognition to the practical utility of the function sufficiently.
