Abstract
The agile production planning and control system (APPCS, for short) is a real time system that can respond to uncertainty immediately. In APPCS, part has a bill of materials (BOM) with a routing that consists of operations on respective work centers. Resource of finite capacity is assigned to a work center. According to some priority rules, demands are planned and scheduled backwardly from their due dates. Once the production plan is invalid, forward scheduling is then used to claculate a possible finished time. APPCS sets its production parameters by simulation. For example, it is possible to know how much safety buffer is necessary to attain a target service level by simulating different degrees of buffer. In this paper, the agile production planning and control system is abstract as an APPCS model that is described by the unified modeling language (UML). A simulator based on the APPCS model is implemented. We give a case study of setting safety buffers against various uncertainties by using the simulator.
