Abstract
Effective business process requires a suitable combination of process design, human resource, and technology. To achieve a good match between people and process, there is an interest question that whether general business process understanding (BPU) is also important for employees at work. This study proposes that the benefits of BPU generates from supporting employee's work: communication, process-oriented thinking, and self-efficacy. Through a study of a Japanese company, external communication, process-oriented thinking and self-efficacy, but not internal communication, are found to be positively associated with BPU. This study suggests that to help employees to develop an in-depth BPU is good for organizations to improve their effectiveness and creativity.
