Abstract
In our former studies, it is shown that about one fourth of the joint inventions between industry and academia are transferred to enterprises before they are filed. Transfers of the fruits of joint research alliance is considered to be a unique phenomenon in knowledge flows in Japan, since in U.S., joint inventions are rarely transferred from universities to enterprises. Based on quantitative analysis of patent database, we discuss the importance and efficiency of knowledge flows induced by transferred patents from the viewpoint of allowance rate, technologies, and networks between industry and academia.
