Abstract

Increasing the number of university spin-offs that commercialize university research and technologies has become a challenge and universities have gradually adopted RA (Research Administrators) to support spin-offs. This study demonstrates the impact of the diversity of RA's experience on the increase in spin-offs. The data were from 401 universities in Japan in 2018. We demonstrated the number of RA, the diversity of RAs' previous work experience, the percentage of long-term employees, and the training system positively impact the number of spin-offs. This study theoretically contributes to the resource-based view by quantitatively demonstrating the effectiveness of RA and practically contributes to making strategic recommendations from results of interaction effect for the effective operation of RA in increasing spin-offs.
