Promoting Creativity in Street Dance

: Focusing on Collective Effervescence in Cypher

Abstract

The importance of creativity has been emphasized in many fields. This study focuses on "cypher" of street dance to examine the promotion of creativity among dancers. In order to promote creativity, positive emotions in Broaden-and-build Theory, as well as the intensity and complexity of those emotions, are considered to be important factors. We hypothesized that these emotions are related to "collective effervescence," a state of collective hyperexcitement that is often observed in a cypher. Therefore, this study aims to clarify the relationship between collective effervescence and creativity, and how to promote the creativity of the participants when collective effervescence occurs in a cypher of street dance.
