Abstract

With the ongoing transformation of business and society by digital technology, including breakthroughs in AI, there is an urgent need to study its organisational and managerial implications. Focusing on the concept of "digital cultural capital," we have studied the relationship between IT investment, digital cultural capital, and firm performance in Japanese firms. In this paper, we examine the approach to organizing the concept of digital cultural capital and applying it to management information systems research, drawing on the work of Pierre Bourdieu, who conceived the concept of "cultural capital," and the work of Ollier-Malaterre et al. who extended cultural capital to "digital cultural capital." By revisiting the concept of digital cultural capital, we aim to provide a foundation for organisational research in the digital age.
