Abstract

This study proposed a new efficiency index that introduces CO₂ emissions and a happiness index to the conventional productive efficiency and measured 47 prefectures in Japan from 2007 to 2018 using the DEA intermediate approach. Based on the measurement results, a comparative analysis of conventional and new indexes was conducted, and the prefectures were classified into three groups according to the characteristics of their efficiency values.
