Effect of fear of failure on entrepreneurial intentions

Exploring future research opportunities by a systematic literature review

Abstract

This paper explores research trends and future research opportunities on the relationship between fear of failure and entrepreneurial intentions through a systematic literature review. The study found the relationship models which have direct or indirect effects and were statistically confirmed with GEM data, survey data from university students or other data. There are remediation factors on fear of failure: support from role models, support from family and friends, and enhancing resilience. Some articles assume that fear of failure consists of sub-constructs rather than a single construct. In the future, research on the relationship model is required. All the studies in the systematic literature review conduct quantitative research, for which further qualitative research will improve understanding of fear of failure in the processes of the entrepreneurial behaviors.
