Abstract
The energy saving effects of telework comes to be an important issue recently. The effects of energy saving with telework are estimated and reported by a lot of papers including government reports. However, it is not clear the consumption of energy at the telework site (mostly at home). The energy saving effect of PC is little because each teleworker uses PC at home as well as at the office. On the other hand, the energy consumption of air conditioning or lighting may not increase when they telework because these appliances can be shared by the other people who are already in the house. The degree of sharing is an important factor for the estimation of energy saving effects of telework. In the result of the research of teleworkers on their energy use, about 40 percent of teleworkers use air-conditioning alone and about 60 percent of them use lighting alone at home. That is, almost half of the energy restores at home even if the energy use in the office decreases by telework. The energy-saving effect of telework might be a half level for the energy reduction in the office.
