Two injured adult Ospreys and one Brunnich's Guillemot fouled with oil were brought to the Niigata Prefecture Bird Protection Center. One of the Ospreys was found immobilized along the coast on 13 October, 1996 and weighed only 950 grams. The bird was given injections of terimix and tetracyclin, and fed frozen pond smelts (Hypomesus sp.). Weight recovered to 1400 grams, and the bird was banded and released on 30 November. The second Osprey was caught in a fishing net on 13 May 1997. This bird was fed common carp (Cyrius carpio) and crucian carp (Carassius cuvieri), and was banded and released on 7 June at a weight of 1650 grams. The Brunnich’s Guillemot fouled with oil was brought to the center on 22 February 1997, in a severely weakened condition. Terimix and tetracyclin were injected, and the bird was fed on frozen pond smelts. Ten fish were fed on the first day, then 30 per day for two day and 40 per day afterwards. The bird was banded and released on 20 March.
