Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between nursing practice competencies and oral assessment.
A self-administered questionnaire survey on nursing practice competencies, oral assessment was conducted among nurses working in pediatric wards, neonatal intensive care units (NICU), and growing care units (GCU), and 280 valid responses were analyzed to examine these associations. The nursing practice competencies were higher among pediatric ward nurses than among NICU and GCU nurses. The competencies were associated with the rate of oral assessment of the “problem-solving and avoidance,” “psychological support
for patients,” and “self-assessment” subscales were significantly and positively associated with oral assessment implementation. The result of the study suggested that Enhancing nursing competencies, particularly strengthening “problem-solving and avoidance,” “psychological support for patients,” and “self-assessment,” may contribute to improving the implementation rate of oral assessments.
