Dementia, common in elderly, is the decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life. Studies have suggested that combination of cognitive and physical activities are robust to prevent dementia, although their relationship remains unclear. In this study, we studied the connection between the volumes of subcortical regions with cognitive and mobility performances in older adults. We examined Japanese seniors in a diverse of tests involving cognitive and physical functions. MRI scans of the participants were processed using brain imaging software for volumetric segmentation.
