Constructing Compact Planar B-spline Curves Using Dynamic Programming-based Control Point Selection

In this paper, we consider a problem of reconstructing planar B-spline curves with equally-spaced knot points. We here develop a method for yielding more `compact B-spline' curves by using only the dominant control points, in which the desired approximation accuracy is achieved. Such a selection of dominant control point is formulated as a graph problem and is solved by dynamic programming (DP). Moreover, it is shown that the representation of compact B-splines is realizable using NURBS. We demonstrate the performance by some experimental studies.
