In the future optical burst switching system, a wavelength tunable laser is required to have a wavelength switching time of a few milliseconds. The DFB laser can be changed its wavelength at high speed by changing the injection current, but a high injection current deteriorates the reliability. We propose a fast and reliable wavelength switching procedure in which the wavelength is changed by quickly changing the current and stabled by gradually decreasing the current during controlling the temperature. We also report the preliminary experimental result which shows the feasibility of the wavelength switching within a few milliseconds.
