This report shows an action and a state of the existence of MgO⋅Fe2O3 which formed in the magnesia clinker, under a condition of various heat treatments.
In this experiment we used those sample, which were made as follows: Adding Fe2O3 as a mineralizer to pure MgO and light burned magnesia, which obtained from raw magnesite containing a small amount of CaO, and then fired them 1300-1600°C for 3hr, and cooled rapidly and slowly respectively.
An action and a state of MgO⋅Fe2O3 in those samples were determined by means of outsight observation; chemical, microscopic and X-Ray analysis and chemical activity.
From above experiment, we obtained following results that, (i) chemical constituent of each samples does not shows any difference, (ii) MgO⋅Fe2O3 forms a solid solution with MgO in the case of rapidly cooled sample (state at high temperature), but it forms a mechanical mixture with MgO in the case of slowly cosled sample (state at low temperature), (iii) the periclase in the later sample shows a redish brown color owing to MgO⋅Fe2O3, which existence in a net-like pattern on it, and it shows a strong magnetic properties, moreover Fe2O3 and MgO⋅Fe2O3 in clinker shows a chemical inactivity, (iv) the periclase in the former sample a light color and transparency such as pure MgO and dose not shows any strong magnetic properties, moreover Fe2O3 and MgO⋅Fe2O3 in the clinker shows a chemical activity.
