This study aimed at investigation of pathogenesis of cancer of the anal region.
Four of eight cases were associated with fistula-in-ano. These had some features stated as follow in anatomical locations, way of growth and histology as compared with cases of non-fistula.
1) Cancer was mainly located in the center of the fistula adjacent to the dentate line at the anal canal.
2) Cancer with fistula was a tendency to develop out of anal canal, whereas cancer without fistula infiltrated within the canal.
3) There was high incidence of colloid carcinoma in anal cancers with fistula.
4) Anal cancer with fistula was underlied by long term fistula-in-ano standing over 10 years.
We draw a conclusion that anal cancers with fistula were different in their locations and histology from cancers without fistula, and long term fistula may be involved in carcinogenesis of anal canal malignancies.
