As very few reports have been made on the atmospheric corrosion of ferrous metals and the deterioration of anti-corrosive coatings related with the domestic meteorological circumstances, an organization was formed to clean up the problems and to find a suitable testing method, in the name of “The Study Group for the Prevention of Atmospheric Corrosion of Steel Structures in Japan”.
The study programme is as follows:
1) Period:
Weathering for five years starting from April, 1960.
2) Location:
Tokyo, Kawasaki-typical industrial district; Omaezaki-typical seaside district (Pacific coast); Makurazaki-typical subtropical district (Pacific coast); Wajima-typical wet district (Japan Sea coast); Takayama-typical inland district.; Obihiro-typical inland and dry, cold district.
3) Kinds of specimens
a) Ferrous metals and others……26 kinds
b) Metallic coatings……16 kinds
c) Organic protective coatings……76 kinds
* total number of specimen 7, 896 sheets And the following papers describe on the respective topics weathered for one year.
