Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations among reflection-impulsivity and intelligence, school abilities. The Matching Familiar Figures Test (MFFT) was used to evaluate 99 male and 129 female 7th-grade students. The results were as follows : (1) The female group, compared with the male group, showed statistically significant tendencies to get higher reflective and efficient scores. (2) Having intelligence controlled and figuring out the partial correlation of each MFFT index and school ability, less significant differences were revealed. From these results, it can be shown that intelligence positively correlated with school ability. (3) Based on the response latency and the number of errors, the traditional quadrant median split was used to classify 4 groups of subjects that had different cognitive styles. The male reflective subjects showed higher school ability and intelligence than male impulsive subjects. The female reflective subjects showed higher school abilities than female impulsive subjects.
