Abstract
The wheat cultivar “Kitahonami” was seeded and grown for 2 years in the northern region of Hokkaido, Japan, and the correlation of the number of leaves on the main stem (leaf number) and that of tillers per plant (tiller number) with the effective cumulative temperature were examined. The tiller number increased exponentially with increase in the leaf number. The leaf number and tiller number before wintering were estimated from the effective cumulative temperature using logistic curves with maximum number 7 for leaf number and 14 for tiller number.
