Epoxy resins and their composites are useful materials at low temperature due to their high strength and low thermal conductivity. But such materials, in general, have relatively high thermal contraction compared with that of metals.
Use of epoxy resin composites conjuction with metals leads to formation of cracks due to differential thermal contraction when they are cooled to low temperature. In the case of SC magnet it will be the cause of degradation and training effects.
Powder filled epoxy composites which were elliminated these disadvantages were developed by suitable choice of fillers and epoxy resins. These composites thus developed have following features; the similar thermal contraction to that of any metal, enough strength as a constituent material, and good handling properties in molding processes. Compositions of composites and their properties measured are reported.
