In Japanese Post-War Education, Administration of School Facilities has been changed with realizing equality of educational opportunity as uniformity of form, while at the same time the school environment has also had the goal of unifomity of form. But, recently, the improvement of school education's quality has been questioned and school education has been valued as all process, whether school conditions are completely provided with the purporse of education or not. Under these conditions, the central government began to subsidize localities for the financial support of multipurpose space from the 59th year of Showa. The central government began to realize a variety of educational methods by this. This means a change of serious administrative view from a quantity provision into that of quality. Firstly, this paper attempts to clarify the position of multipurpose space, stressing on the improvement of quality in school facilities and their administration in post-war Japan. Secondly, it tries to clarify the meaning of "quality administration" concerning the school environment. From the above analyses, the writer has pointed out some basic ideas concerning school facilities administration and what they should be. Some ideas: 1 The central government has dealt in various ways with improving the quality of school facilitites and their standard administration, but localities have followed the standard administration of the center. The formality of a central standard have been well reflected in school facilities. 2 The reasons are not only the poor finance and problems of the central standard, but also Japan's geographical conditions as well as arrears of study on school facilities administration. 3 Multipurpose space can be made much of when reflecting on school facilities and on the contents of school education. But it is in danger of neglecting school environments peculiar to each school. 4 The future of school facilities administration should show harmony between school facilities administration and the school environment. It shuld be planed by bringing children into focus.
