Leachate from industrial waste landfill located in Kanto Area was sampled in order to investigate concentration levels of metal elements and organic substances. Metal elements were analyzed by ICP emission spectrometry and concentration levels were lower than levels reported in foreign papers. The leachate was subjected to vacuum distillation in the frozen state to separate volatile organics from non-volatiles. Many organic compounds were detected both in the distillate and the residue. Important compounds were several phenols, tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphate, N-tert-butyl-4-methylbenzamide, N-butylbenzenesulfonamide, and dibutyl phthalate, some of which were supposed to be additives in plastics.
