In order to study changes of the hoofs with growth and training, measurement was made on the following items : height, girth, cannon, weight, square measure surrounded by the ground border of the wall of the hoof (SMH), length of the hoof in front of the wall (LHW), and angle of inclination in front of the wall on the ground plane (AIG) . Thirteen Arabian yearlings were used while they were being reared at the Miyazaki Race Course of the Japan Racing Association. Measurement was carried out 4 times at 3-month intervals ; i. e., in June, September, December, and March . 1. Heigt, girth, cannon, and weight increased with growth and training . These para meters corresponded to those previously reported in Arabian yearlings . The rate of increase was the greatest in the weight. 2. SMH and LHW increased with growth and training, too. SMH increased in correlation with weight. 3. AIG decreased in both fore- and hind limbs with growth and training . Thus, the hoofs of young colts changed especially during the period of yearling and 2 years of age. Enough attention should be paid to the hoof in this period.
