Abstract
The purpose is to clarify the changes and issues of log shitake production for 10 years after the nuclear accident in Tochigi Prefecture, which is a medium and low radiation dose area. The production volume, which had been declining, has dropped sharply by 90％, and 90％ of producers have withdrawn. Forestry agency and Tochigi Prefecture that were not previously involved in the distribution of shitake log are procuring nationwide through forest owners associations, and most of the shitake logs used by producers are from western Japan. Even after 10 years, the recovery of self-sufficiency of own prefecture is extremely limited. Through the procurement and inspection of shitake log, cooperation between producers in Tochigi Prefecture, which does not have an organization such as specialized cooperatives, and forest department of Tochigi Prefecture and forest owner’s association’s federation has been created. Producers are involved in complicated document preparation and production processes, and are searching for a production system that assumes the supply of Quercus acutissima from west Japan while waiting for the decay of radioactive materials in shitake logs. The diameters of abandoned hardwood forest for logs are increasing and the aging of producers are progressing.
