The mechanical properties of spheroidal graphite cast iron with thin sections were evaluated experimentally. Cast iron containing various amounts of C and Si were melted in a high frequency induction furnace. The melt was superheated to 1773K for nodularization treatment in a crucible using 1.6% of Fe-Si-Mg alloys containing RE and Ca. The melt was post-inoculated with 0.4% Fe-Si and was cast in knock off-type shell moulds of 10mm and 30mm in diameter.
High tensile strength to about 600 to 750MPa and excellent elongation to about 11 to 17% were obtained in the 10mm diameter spheroidal graphite cast iron specimens.
