Spatial and Temporal Patterns of Tropical Forest Landscape Prioritization for Conservation Planning in Indonesia

This study assess the spatial and temporal patterns of area prioritization in a Forest Management Unit (FMU). A prioritization framework was developed using a GIS-based multi-criteria analysis to accommodate the main conservation tasks of biodiversity preservation and forest rehabilitation. The spatial and temporal change of the resultant priority area was assessed in the periods of 1993-2003 and 2003-2013 in Sultan Adam Forest Park as the study site. The preservation priority area changed with the agreements of 0.41 and 0.68, while the rehabilitation prioritization area changed with 0.58 and 0.703. The optimum proportion of 14% and 30% was proposed for preservation priority area, meanwhile 10% and 17% were proposed for rehabilititation priority area. A conservation zonation was propossed to adjust the current zonation within the park.
