Indonesia has set out project to relocate its capital from Jakarta to tropical forests in East Kalimantan province on the Indonesian side of Borneo. However, many natural areas could be lost due to the relocation. Orangutans are no exception. Although several studies have estimated the impact of relocation, they have not mentioned appropriate relocation sites. The purpose of this study was to consider relocation sites while conserving habitat for orangutans using Marxan. The study area was seven regencies in including the area which was planed the capital relocation. The capital relocation has been planning in the area extending from Kutai Kartanegara (Kukar) Regency to Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) Regency in East Kalimantan. In 1st scenario in Marxan, Of the 189,322 hexagons, 6,536 hexagons were selected as new developable areas, which was 3.5% of study site. This area and the areas currently in use might be potential areas for capital relocation while protecting orangutan habitat.
