To evaluate the effects of bamboo invasion on forest biogeochemical nitrogen (N) cycling, we conducted a stand-scale investigation to evaluate soil solution chemistry in forest floor (0-5 cm). N mineralization of litter and mineral soil (0-5 cm) was also measured by the laboratory incubation method. The inorganic N concentration of soil solution was significantly lower in Moso bamboo (BF) than in Japanese cedar forest (CF) . Litter net N mineralization rates were not significantly different between BF and CF, indicating that litter mineralization may not affect inorganic N concentration in surface soil. Additionally, mineral soil net N mineralization rate of surface soil was significantly higher in BF than in CF, indicating that soil N mineralization could not explain the lower inorganic N concentration in BF. Previous studies demonstrated that N uptake in BF was much higher than that in CF, potentially leading to the lower N concentration in BF.
