Abstract
The author studied how they enjoyed Setsu-Getsu-Ka which represents natural features from season to season in the garden and what kind of amusement they did in the garden of the Heian period by means of analyzing the description in the dynastic literature. Through the study it is observed that they enjoyed Setsu-Getsu-Ka as follows: Setsu (snow); rolling a snow-ball, heaping the ground with snow and snow-scene viewing, Getsu (the moon); having moon-watching parties, enjoying the evening cool and the moon and viewing the moon, and Ka (flower); having parties under the cherry blossoms, and viewing and strolling under the cherry blossoms. As regards the play they enjoyed boating and playing football in a garden. Farthemore those plays are obserbed as the starting point of this kind of amusements by means of analyzing the picture scrolls of the period.
