Abstract
Based on the survey of present situation and the analysis of related historical literature, we studied the spatial composition of Gumsedong garden constructed by Yun seun-do (Kosan), an outsandig confucian in mid-term of Chousen Dynasty, who spent a secluded life for many years around this area. Hoeshimdang (main house) of Gumseidong was constructed after seclusion in the upper area of a mountain. Its spatial composition is considered to be fundamentally based on the two ideas, Pungsu theory and the doctrines of Zhuzi. And we could understand his affirmation of seclusion in the process vally to large waterfall. Thischaracteristics of seclusion is deep-rooted in Confucianism, as in chinese seclusion. But, it is quite different from seclusion in Japan.
