Abstract
For the classification of upper trunk forms which might contribute to basic waist pattern making, factor analysis was applied to 25 measurements and to 18 indices respectively which were obtained from 161 women students aged 18 to 22 years.
The main results were as follows :
1) In analysis of 25 measurements, (1) the relation between anterior length and posterior length, and (2) sizes of diagonal anterior or posterior chest measurements were obtained as the important properties of upper trunk forms.
2) In analysis of 18 indices including shoulder slope, (1) the relation between anterior length. and posterior length, and (2) the thickness of the shoulder were obtained asthe important properties of upper trunk forms.
It was concluded that these properties must be taken into consideration at basic waist pattern making.
