Objective: We investigated associations between asymptomatic uterine fibroids and nulliparity, hypertension, and obesity in Japanese women.
Methods: Japanese women who visited our health check-up center were enrolled between April 2021 and March 2022 and divided into two groups based on transvaginal ultrasound examination results: women with and without uterine fibroids (1,286 participants each, 2,572 participants in total). Their number of births, blood pressure levels (mmHg), and body mass index (BMI) (kg/m2) were compared.
Results: In comparisons of women with and without uterine fibroids, nulliparity was 22.9% vs. 11.6%, p < 0.001; hypertension was 22.4% vs. 12.9%, p < 0.001; and BMI (25.0–29.9 kg/m2) was 14.8% vs. 10.9%, p = 0.004. Logistic regression analysis revealed that the odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals for nulliparity, hypertension, and BMI were 2.74 (2.04–3.67), p < 0.001; 1.43 (1.16–1.76), p < 0.001; and 1.30 (1.02–1.66), p = 0.035, respectively.
Conclusion: We found that Japanese women with asymptomatic uterine fibroids had higher rates of nulliparity, hypertension, and obesity (1st degree) than those without uterine fibroids.
