Abstract

In this paper, we firstly analyzed tendencies of the back muscle strength in Japanese female students, based on long−term records of the physical fitness and athletic ability, and on surveys for the past ten years in a junior college. And secondly we examined semester school−exercises effects to the back muscle strength, from the practical viewpoint of improving those contents. As a result we could get the following two findings. The first is that the back muscle strength of female students have been getting weaker especially since about mid−1990's, and if any countermeasures are not taken, their tendency is supposed to continue from now on. The second is that semester school−exercises are almost effective to maintain or enhance their back strength, and would be more effective in the future, if we consider their backgrounds and expectations, and continually improve contents of exercises according their conditions. In conclusion, back muscle strength−measurement is an useful index for physical self−evaluation for students and educational effect−evaluation for teachers.
