This report documents a case of clear cell carcinoma of the tongue base,which is rare. The patient was a 56-year-old male. The tumor was detected by esohago-gastro-duodeno scopy. FDG-PET was negative in this patient. He underwent surgical therapy. The pathological diagnosis was clear cell carcinoma. There are rare cases of local recurrence and distant metastases with this type of tumor. The 10-year survival rates is about 90%. Treatment typically involves a wide surgical resection with or without lymph node dissection. Radiation therapy is administered for recurrent lesions or those with lymph node metastases.There are few reports describing the features of this type of tumor, therefore it is recommended that this patient should be observed with a long term follow-up.
