Abstract
The speech discrimination score (SDS) has proven to correlate well with the average hearing level in 349 ears with sensorineural hearing loss (excluding those with vestibular schwannoma), with the equation: y=-1.1102x + 136.15 (R2=0.4876). Seventeen ears showed significant declines in the SDS. Of these 17 ears, eight ears of six aged patients showed progressive hearing loss without any particular disease and five ears were from three patients who had suffered from Meniere's disease for more than 30 years, which suggested that retrocochlear hearing loss might develop in Meniere's disease if the duration of the disease becomes prolonged.
