The author performed otorhinolaryngological examintions of 2, 450 pupils of 3 primary schools in the City of Onoda in April 1954, and obtained the following results: -
1) Diseases of the ear were the most prevalent (42.4 % of all diseases), and those of the pharynx (37.1 %) and of the nose (20.5 %) followed.
2) It is to be noted that otitis media chronica stood at the top of aural diseases (28.6 %).
3) Contraction of otitis media chronica was in a far greater percentage in the ages over 9. It seems to be due to the fact that the year of their birth fell on the year of the end of World War II, when the Japanese nation were exhausted both physically and economically. Kubo (Fukuoka)
