The endoscopic examination that was introduced into Japan by the late Prof. Ino. Kubo has been improved greatly in many respects, its merits recognized, and the bronchoesophagological department has been established as an independent branch of medical science.
The author states on the diagnosis and treatment of the tracheobronchial tuberculosi sthat is observed in 10 to 15% of pulmonary tuberculosis observed endoscopically, and on the early diagnosis and determination of possibility of surgical treatment of lung cancer that has doubled in the recent three years in Japan. He adds that the biplane-thrughscope is very useful in the extraction of bronchial foreign bodies which cannot be seen even under endoscopy.
