Abstract
Observations were made of the influence of the endotracheal intubation on the larynx with 55 cases who underwent the intrathoracal operation of the heart and the lung under the anesthesia by endotracheal intubation, and the following results were obtained.
1) Subjective symptoms appeared in 100 % of the cases. The main symptoms were pain, hoarse voice, stridor, dyspnea, cough, hemoptysis, and feeling of foreign body. These symptoms disappeared in 2 weeks.
2) Objective symptoms appeared in 92.7 % of the cases. The main symptoms were hyperemia, paleness, hemorrhage, excoriation, swelling, roughness of chordal margin, and granulation, and these symptoms disappeared rapidly in 2 weeks, except roughness and granulation. Bleeding and excoriation occuring as a result of the trauma to the vocal chord were limited to the cartilaginous part of the vocal chord. This is to be noted in correlation to the origin of laryngeal granuloma.
