Endolymphatic hydrops was produced in 16g uinea pigs by obliteration of the endolymphatic sac. The serial section was made about 20μ thick, and its inner ear findings was observed under light microscope.
The results were as follows;
The ductus reuniens was dilated, and their diameters became 0.10-0.14mm (normal control unoperated ear showed the diameter of it under 0.03mm). Its dilatation became maximum within 12 hours after the operation of the endolymphatic sac. The utriculo-endolymphatic valve was open in about one-third cases in 16 guinea pigs (normal control unoperated ear showed the valve almost closed). The valves were closed in 12 hours and 1 day after the operation, however it was open in case of 2 days. The utricular duct and valve was slightly made narrow again in the cases of 3 weeks and 2 months after the operation. The cause of narrowing of them was considered that the extremely dilated saccule compressed the lower part of the utricular wall.
