Several cases of dysphagia (Wallenberg syndrome 1, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis 1, pseudobulbar paralysis 2, and laryngotracheal trauma 2) were clinically investigated and treated with cricomyotomy. Cineradiographic and electromyographic observations revealed that dysphagia in all cases were caused by some problems in the second stage of deglutition and that the discoordination of hypopharyngeal muscles such as the hyopharyngeus, thyropharyngeus and cricopharyngeus muscle. All cases with cricomyotomy easily swallowed and didn't complain of any discomfort. We assured of its being significant. Furthermore, clinical entities of these various malfunctions were discussed with special reference to their pathogenesis and therapeutic problems.
