When tympanoplasty surgery first became popular, the results were far from ideal. Therefore, the methods and the grafts have largely changed in the course of the development of the tympanoplasty procedure. However, there are still many problems to be solved for further development of the surgery.
In this paper, improved results in recent tympanoplasty are presented from both functional and anatomical points of view, while factors influencing failure of the surgery are discussed.
