According to Kuijpers' theory, Endocochlear DC Potential (EP) is thought to be the sum of a positive electrogenic K+ secretion potential and a negative K+ diffusion potential.
EP decreases during anoxia, and it is expected to be equal to K+ diffusion potenti al at it's lowest level. But in kanamycin poisoned guinea pigs, EP shows smaller decline during anoxea than in normal guinea pigs. It is difficult to explain this phe nomenon by Kuijpers' theory only.
In this study, the change of EP and Intracochlear Negative Potential (INP) were examined when anoxia, Ethacrynic acid, and Furosemide were loaded on normal and Kanamycin guinea pigs.
With these date, the origin of EP was discussed.
