In 1966 Hiroto reported the of of systemic administration of antiplasminic drug for acute laryngitis. However, the prolonged medication of this drug might exacerbate the inflammatory process because of the inhibition of the local fibrinolysis due to the abnormality of the blood fibrinogen metabolism. The topical application of this drug therefore should be more benificial than the systemic administration. In this paper, the clinical results in 20 cases of acute laryngitis, in whom 1ml of 5% Transamin was inhaled through a nebulizer once a day for about a week, were reported. The results obtained were remarkable effect in 5 cases, moderate effect in 9 cases, slight effect in 3 cases and no effect in 3 cases. The effectiveness of this treatment was recognized in about 70% of the patients.
From this clinical experiences, it was supposed that the laryngeal edema observed in acute laryngitis might be occured on the basis of the abnormality in plasmin and complement system in blood and furthermore in some cases the increase of fibrinolytic activity in local site and decrease of inhibitor of complement system act an important role in the inflammatory process in the larynx.
