Abstract
A case of laryngeal angiomyoma, 57-year-old man who had complained of hoarsness for one year, was reported. The tumor could be exstirpated easily by parapharyngeal approach under the general anesthesia. Histopathological examination of the specimen revealed light-and electronmicroscopically angiomyoma (vascular leiomyoma).
The benign smooth muscle tumor is one of the most infrequent types of tumor in the head and neck region which was composed from scattering smooth muscle.
Previously only twenty-six cases have been reported in Japan. ; Nasal cavity 11, Tongue 5, Trachea 3, Larynx, Epipharynx, Mesopharynx, Hypopharynx, Oral Mucosa, Cheek and Neck each one case, respectively. From a viewpoint of histogenesis and clinical findings, the benign smooth muscle tumor originating in the head and neck region was briefly discussed.
