Abstract
The authors reported a case of submandibular chondrosarcoma, and discussed the pathology, symptoms and treatment of this rare disease after reviewing the literature. The patient was a 52-year-old woman with a painless swelling of the left preauricular lesion, of three months duration. The CT sialography clearly delineated a tumor arising at the left mandibular ramus; the tumor was removed with preservation of the facial nerve. The tumor was diagnosed as chondrosarcoma by histopathological examination. A half year later, the tumor recurred at the lower end of the ramus. Wide total removal of the tumor with hemimandibulectomy was performed and 6000 rad postoperative radiation was given. No recurrence was seen for a year postoperatively.
